Hi. It's my post for the contest of the week with the following guiding highlights:

What do you understand by deforestation?

Deforestation is one of the activities which is not economics friendly because the consequence of the action is detrimental to the society at the end of the day.
Deforestation is simply the removal of trees and ridding of forest by cutting down trees and burning of bushes. This act does not rid only the trees and plants; the wildlife is gone, other resources are lost, the forest at whole is lost.
Most times, it is done during the process of urbanization, logging of woods , industrialization and so on.

What are the dangers to deforestation?

The activity of deforestation has more disadvantages than its advantages which is not so good. The dangers it pose to the society include:

1. Loss of natural resources: some of these trees that are gotten rid of contain some resources like latex, gum, and so on.
2. Loss of natural habitat: it is no news that some animals reside in the forest; like the birds which have their nest on the trees, monkeys, and so on. 3. During the course of deforestation, they lose their home and this can lead to migration of certain species.
3. Birth of arid land: continuous and frequent removal of trees and forest would eventually lead to the production of arid land or deserts.
4. Increased rate of natural disasters: trees and plantations have a way of reducing and stopping natural disasters like flood and wind. Deforestation would definitely expose the resident of the affected areas to natural disasters like the one mentioned above.
5. Reduced soil quality: through the process of repeated burning of bushes to remove the trees, the soil is also affected as it loses texture and quality over time.

How can deforestation be reduced?
The consequences of deforestation can be reduced by the following possible ways

1. Afforestation: this is simply the planting of trees. People who are involved in falling of trees especially should try as much as possible to replant the trees even if it would take a while to grow back.
2. Public awareness: some people are not aware of the dangers caused by their actions. Getting people to know about deforestation and its dangers through public hearing would reduce the action.
3. Conservation by community: this is the process of encouraging the residents of local communities to take part in the conservation and management of the forest.
