Sunflower and sunflower oil

 

When I see sunflower field I just recall the summer that I spent at my grandmother’s house with my friends, the kids of the same age and hot summer. The house where we lived was in close proximity to the sunflower field of one of our neighbour farmer, he grew the plants and sell them for sunflower oil. The time when we were visiting our grandma it was summer and that was the time when sunflowers were not really ready to be collected but for us children we only saw tall beautiful flowers with huge plate of black sunflower seeds that had good contrast in compare to the yellow leaves. I remember that we children loved to visit the field and to tell the truth we were stealing one of the sunflower heads. To tell the truth the seeds at this stage do not have hard shell but they are very soft and delicious. What I did is we put few seeds in our mouth and just chew them and that was absolutely great and I remember that afterwards we came back home and when we were offered dinner, we said that we are not hungry. I remember that our grandma was surprised that we after running the whole day outside are not hungry.

Since then when I see fields with sunflower I immediately recall the time of my childhood but also since then my favourite snack is sunflower seed. Unlike when I was little I like to fry sunflowers on pan for about a minute that makes the shell of them crusty and the seeds are roasted and delicious.

The same time I love using sunflower oil when I am cooking or when I need to fry something like potatoes because it gives that special taste to potatoes but also it is widely available in shops.
