Animal Activities #38
In the middle of the golden rice fields, there was a cat named Milo that was loved by many.
To the villagers, he was the friendliest and the most helpful of cats. It was true that he was not graceful. He was a gray cat, with little splotches of brown on his back legs. It was obvious that he was very loved in the small village.
Cats got along with every one of the villagers. Griffin loved cats. He always went on walks in the mornings, and he loved the fact that he could accompany the farmers who went to the fields. He did his best to get along with all of the children to, as they were friends.
In the village his reputation seemed to be the most helpful of all the cats. One of the cats very often went to the coop that was closest to the village, and that was Milo. It was very clear that ‘heassumed’ that was twas he who catched the most snakes, as he was the cat that was cleverly was watching the snakes closest.
After a few days of not hearing anything of the coop, one of the villagers at midnight, was awakened by noise. The chickens crowed frantically. The villagers went out with oil lamps, to behold a startled sight; Milo checking an enormous snake that was attempting to enter the pen. Milo's matted fur had risen, and he was all ready to pounce but the other party was much more dangerous.
A brief battle ensued. Milo sprang, clawed and bit madly outenstride the snake. At last, the snake darted off, and made its way along in the soft rice fields. Just everyone was happy about that and there he sat, Milo or stood, all frizzy hair and worn out but dignified.
Ever since that night, Milo was a village hero. Villagers took a liking to him, giving him extra food, at one point even setting up a warm bed on the terrace of the village hall. Children began to warm to Milo, telling stories and playing with him.
However, Milo never changed. Day after day he went all about the village, with them, consoling and protecting. The villagers had learnt one very important thing: already heroes aren't always found as larger than life humans, but as small animals with enormous hearts.
Milo became a face of bravery and friendship to the survivors, serving as a powerful reminder that animals are not only life companions but loyal friends as well.
