Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #29
Hello everyone On this occasion I would like to participate in a contest held by @hive-118902 about the Steem-agro Contest: "Basic Agricultural Knowledge #29" following my previous entry I would like to invite my friends @sabbirakib @anjinoor @chiagoziee to participate in this contest
Breeding and Cultivation: Types, Benefits, and Applications
Breeding — a process of population clearance by creating lots of individuals of a certain species it also can be beneficial in creating a good parent stock for offspring. Because agriculture and animal husbandry revolves around food availability, breeding is very significant as a means to ensure a future food supply and increase production yields.
Breeding may be both (depending on goal and the taxonomic rank of the organism) natural or artificial.
Breeding is classified into two types in general: asexual and sexual.
Organisms reproduce asexually without involvement of sex cells, which means offspring are genetically identical to parent (clone). A classic example of asexual reproduction in plants are sweet potatoes, potatoes and the best rice brutally through cuttings/graftings like betel plants.
Sexual Breeding is the merging of male and female sex cells. By cross this type results progenies that have genetic variations (as demonstrated by cattle, chickens & fish via cross breeding).
Advantages of Breeding
Breeding is Process to choose and breeds the best from stock/design, ending up better responses in offspring. Ultimately of course to increase the health, and "productiveness" of the organisms you are farming. Benefits Derived from Dominating Crossbreeding are Somewhat Exemplified by
13C crop yield (or else livestock output)
Create crops that can resist a pest, disease or climate change
Improving nutritional value and taste of ag products.
Shortening the harvest season or maturing of farm stock.
Adapting organisms to one's own locality.
Breeding Applications
Breeding applications have quite large aspect whether in field Agriculture, animal husbandry and from biotechnology.
Agricultural from rice breed (hybrid rice, better corn ) to resistant tomato.
Livestock: Cross cattle for beef cattle either through import local animal or combining before.
Fisheries: Tilapia or catfish breeding to improve growth and disease resistance.
Biotechnology: Taking advantage of genetic engineering in creating transgenic organisms that have favourable attributes.
Overall, breeding and enhancement is an important approach to bridge food needs, production enhancement across different sectors. Indeed, the innovations in this area are finding solutions to planetary challenges such as climate change and population growth.
