Agrotourism (agrion = farm in Greek) or agricultural tourism is a kind of tourism that capitalizes on the potential of agriculture as a tourist attraction, by offering educational experiences, relaxation, and economic benefits to rural areas. Nature (or agro) tourism involves tourists in work done in the fields–planting, weeding, harvesting, feeding livestock- up till ⁸⁴ processing the produce into the final product. This idea links agriculture with tourism, provides sustainable rural area concept.
Agrotourism and rural development plays a very important role. The first of all is that agrotourism creates new employment opportunities within the village, either directly when people in the village operate the sites or indirectly, as it stimulates the market and the products of the local area. First is, the economic benefit from agrotourism will strengthen the regional economy through income diversification on the farmers as well as UMKMs. Because agrotourism is generally managed by relying on local wisdom and the beauty of the surrounding nature, then the third benefit of agrotourism is the preservation of cultural and environmental preservation.
