Who Am I? – A Dawn Walk and “The Happy Prince”

Early this morning, unable to sleep, I stepped outside.
In the deep of night, the park is empty,
Not even a stray cat in sight.
At times like this, I hear the voice of my own thoughts more clearly.

As I walked, I listened to Oscar Wilde’s “The Happy Prince” through my earphones.
When I was young, I thought it was just a sad fairy tale,
But hearing it now, I realize how much it resembles my own desire to endure reality.

In the story, the Prince gives everything he has to help those in need,
And the little swallow who truly loves him stays by his side until the end.
In the end, both vanish from the world,
Yet their hearts remain, lingering even longer.

After finishing the book,
I ask myself, “What am I walking for?”
Honestly, don’t we all, somewhere inside,
Want to be someone’s dream,
Or to be a small encouragement for someone else?

Whenever I hear news of another Nobel Literature Prize winner,
I think, “Someday, with the values I believe in,
I want to leave even the smallest mark on someone’s heart.”

There are no perfect people, no omniscient beings in this world.
All I wish for is
To be someone who quietly supports another person’s precious dream—
A warmhearted person.

On this dawn walk,
I ask myself again,

“Who are you?”

As you read these words,
I hope, just once,
That you too might ask yourself the same question.

Thank you.
