Eyes on Jesus

We want to live a full life, with purpose and joy here on earth, simple: let's fix our eyes on Christ.

For the sake of your name, O Jehovah,
You will also forgive my sin, for it is great.
12 Who is the man who fears Jehovah?
He will teach him the way he should choose.
13 He will enjoy prosperity,
And his descendants will inherit the land.
14 The intimate fellowship of Jehovah is with those who fear him,
And he will make known to them his covenant.
15 My eyes are ever toward Jehovah,
For he will pluck my feet out of the net.

Psalms 25:11-15

Let's imagine that we are on the beach, in the sand and we want to make a straight line with the footprints of our feet. This is not easy since the idea would be to walk slowly, thinking about each step, stepping firmly and always looking down to focus on where our feet step.
But in practice the challenge becomes much more difficult when we focus our gaze downwards, towards our feet, the footprints begin to come out crooked. Check to look at your feet and you will be focused on that. We cannot see where we are going. This gives us the idea that we lose perspective on how to direct ourselves in the bigger picture. There is no focus and we are only guided by how we have taken the previous step.
If we want the path of footprints in the sand on the beach to come out straight, we have a way. It is by fixing our sight on a certain point, whether it is a tree or an element that allows us to maintain a specific direction, at the same time we must ignore our feet, we must fix our gaze on some object that is not us. In this way the path can be much straighter than if we look at our feet.

3 You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

Isaiah 26:3

With all this analogy I want us to have a greater understanding about the spiritual meaning of fixing our eyes on Christ. If we walk through life concentrating only on ourselves, looking inward, it is very easy for us to stray and lose the image of what awaits us in front of us and what allows us to maintain straightness in each step. But when we take our eyes off of ourselves and fix our sight and thoughts on Christ, our path makes sense and we can take step by step in straightness.
