When we seek to live according to God's will, according to His wisdom, what happens?
My son, if you will receive my words,
And treasure my commandments within you,
2 And incline your ear to wisdom;
If you will incline your heart to understanding,
3 If you will call for understanding,
And give your voice to prudence;
4 If you will seek her as silver,
And search for her as for precious treasures,
5 Then you will understand the fear of the Lord,
And find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom,
And from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He provides sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk uprightly.
8 He guards the paths of justice,
And preserves the path of His saints.
9 Then you will understand righteousness, justice,
And equity, and every good path.
10 When wisdom enters your heart,
And knowledge is pleasant to your soul,
11 Discretion will guard you;
Understanding will preserve you,
12 To deliver you from the evil way,
From men who speak perverse things,
13 Who forsake straight paths
To walk in dark ways;
14 Who rejoice in doing evil,
Who delight in the perversity of vice;
15 Whose paths are crooked,
And their ways are crooked.
16 You will be delivered from the strange woman,
From the foreign woman who flatters with her words,
17 Who forsakes the companion of her youth,
And forgets the covenant of her God.
18 Therefore her house inclines to death,
And her ways to the dead;
19 All who approach her will not return,
Nor will they ever walk again in the paths of life.
20 So you will walk in the way of the good,
And keep the paths of the righteous;
21 For the upright will inhabit the land,
And the blameless will remain in it,
22 But the wicked will be cut off from the land,
And the transgressors will be rooted out of it.
Proverbs 2
Let's suppose we are in a job interview, and it's time to ask the following question: What does this benefits package they're offering me include? Thinking about God's wisdom, we can consider the same question: What are the benefits or advantages of living according to the instructions of God's word?
If you seek her like silver,
And search for her as for precious treasures,
5 Then you will understand the fear of the Lord,
And find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom,
And from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Proverbs 2:4-6
Let's pay attention to the previous text: when we seek God's wisdom, we gain knowledge and understanding of all things. We develop a better perception of life, and our relationship with God improves considerably. We develop the ability to see things differently, but more importantly, we develop the ability to see ourselves as God sees us. To the extent that God's word permeates our lives, our minds and our entire being are shaped to face life's various challenges.
He provides sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield for those who walk uprightly.
8 He guards the paths of justice,
And preserves the path of His saints.
9 Then you will understand righteousness, justice,
equity, and every good path.
