Every day that we get to know the Lord more and more, our love for Him grows and we learn to truly love Him.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
4 Love suffers long, is kind. Love does not envy, does not boast, is not proud. 5 Does not dishonor, does not seek its own, is not easily provoked, keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. 7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails; but prophecies will fail, tongues will cease, and knowledge will come to an end.

1 Corinthians 13:1-8

Today the Apostle Paul tells us about the preeminence of the Lord over knowledge, generosity, tongues, and even sacrifice. He gives us a description of the nature of biblical love that is kind, gentle, humble, and very patient. The Lord Himself is the example of that love.
If we want to practice this love through our own strength it is extremely difficult, this is because it is not natural for us as human beings to practice it. That love that Paul speaks of puts other people first before ourselves even when we believe that we have a higher position than others.
Our nature urges us not to forgive or apologize if the other person does not change their behavior toward us. This is a challenge that we are tempted to do at all times. We are also tempted to not forget and remember the offense throughout our lives. But let us remember that we have the example of Jesus Christ who loved us to the end even though we were sinners and his enemies.

30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.

Mark 12:30-31

We have a calling to love the Lord and also to love the people around us even if they do not deserve our love. We have received the power of the Holy Spirit that will help us to understand and care deeply about other people. In this way we experience the love of God and demonstrate it to those around us, and this is one of the greatest pleasures in the life of a child of God. Let us take a moment to memorize and understand what are the attributes of biblical love that Paul teaches us and look for a way to put them into practice in our relationships.
