We are united to God.

Nothing and no one can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. No error or sin can separate us from the love of God.
32 He who did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all—how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall lay any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, yes, who was also raised again, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:
For your sake we are killed all the day long;
We are counted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:32-39
The apostle Paul is very clear and direct when he speaks about the security we have in Christ Jesus. In chapter eight, he argues very persuasively through some questions to help us believe in eternal security.
Who will accuse God's elect? This question is immediately answered because no one can accuse believers, even when Satan tries. Immediately, the Son of God is justified through Jesus Christ. The Son of God himself has declared that we are innocent and blameless before him. If we are going through a period of lack of faith in which we have incurred sin, we are prone to lose our reward but not to lose our eternity in heaven with Christ Jesus.
12 And if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, 13 each one's work will become manifest. For the Day will reveal it, because it will be revealed by fire. And the fire will test each one's work of what kind. 14 If anyone's work remains which he has built on it, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, but he himself will be saved, yet so as by fire.
