REDEEMING THE TIME

in #steemchurch7 years ago

To redeem means to get something back by payment or by doing something. It equally means to perform a promise or an obligation.

Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the apostle (Peter) speaking on 'Changed Lives', said "From now on, then, you must live the rest of your earthly lives controlled by God's will not by human desires. You have spent enough time in the past doing what the heathen like to do. Your lives were spent in indecency, lust, drunkenness, orgies, drinking, parties and disgusting worship of idols.

Ways Of Redeeming The Time

1. Living as children of God

The message is clear, we must turn a new leaf. We can not afford to walk in darkness anymore. Let us stand up for Jesus! Let us shine for Jesus! Let us make up for those years that we lost while we were in the world. Enjoy your life now. There is no need to go back to darkness, shine forth your light.

#####2. Walk Circumspectly

There is no gain saying the fact that "days are evil". We are in the very last days. The perilous times are here with us. No doubt, the day of the Lord is at hand! We are therefore commanded to redeem the time and to "look carefully how we walk". Be as wise as a serpent and as harmless as a dove. Live purposefully, worthily and accurately. Your life is not anyhow life so don't walk anyhow. Be wise in your walk.

3. Do something

Action! Action!! That is the secret of victory.
We conquer by action and especially by continuing. Today we have the opportunity to bear the cross and follow our Lord and Saviour. It is too late for half measures. Do something today.

4. Think about this prayer

Lord you have bee our dwelling place through out all generations.
The length of our days are seventy years or eighty.... Yet the best of them is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass and we fly away. Teach us to number our days aright, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalms 90:1,10,12.

These are divinely inspired words streaming from a heart totally yielded unto God. It forms a part of the prayer of David, the man of God. Think about that. How sincere are you in terms of living in the light of eternity? Time is short, death is sure and eternity is certain. We cannot afford to gamble with our eternal destiny. Let us walk with God. That is true wisdom.

5. Know the title

We have come a long way. The night is far spent, the day is at hand, we may not know the exact time, but the signs showing all around, the world is coming to an end not too long. We can not afford to waste time. We don't even have the time that much. Heaven is too real and Hell is too hot for us to compromise standards. The day of the Lord is too near for us to join the apostates. The Lord is near, He is coming soon.

6. Get Busy for the Lord

In view of the Supreme importance of the work given to us by our Lord and Saviour coupled with the urgency of the call, and the shortbread of our time here on earth, we have to respond to all Sanballats, Tobiahs, Geshems, and the rest of our enemies in the words of Nehemiah.

7. It could be now or never

Your time (I.e. the length of your days) has been divinely computerized. Each of us has his or her own call number unknown to us. One day, the sun, light, moon and the stars will be darkened! Then the cloud will return after the rain. It is a high risk to waste or abuse any opportunity given to us to do something of eternal value. You have no power over tomorrow as it affects your life. Hence the preacher's solemn command:

Whatever your hand finds to do (provided it is in line with the acceptable will of God), do it with all your might. Ecclesiastes 9:10

Do it as if there will be no tomorrow. Make the most of today. Tomorrow may not meet you here.

Prayer

Grant me oh Lord the grace to shine brightest on darkest night.

Why go back to the bondage of Egypt when you are already in the promise land
