Remove toxic mercury from water in seconds

Most, if not all, of us know that mercury is a toxic substance. It can be absorbed through the skin and mucous membranes while mercury vapors can be inhaled. Its effect can include damage to brain, kidney and lungs not only to human beings but also animals. The greater danger is in waters when the toxin is not immediately known as it is hidden from naked eyes.

Researchers from University of Minnesota (UMN) discovered a sponge that removes mercury from water. This was through the application of nanotechnology. The sponge is a simple memory foam and coated with nano-layer of selenium. After absorbing the toxin, the sponge converts the contamination into non-toxic material so the sponge can be safely disposed as regular non-toxic waste afterwards.

Water is key as we are 72% agua just like the mud ball we walk on shares a very similar percentage of it's whole being water. Anything that helps clean it is great in my book but don't be deceived as distilling is the only way to get sWeEt puRE H2O for the body!

distilling is the only way to get sWeEt puRE H2O for the body!

I was once advised that distilled water is primarily good for cleaning vehicles and not for drinking. What is your take on that?

Aww that's rich ain't it? I wonder who told you that? In all seriousness though distilled water IMO is the only clean/pure water. What is water? It is a solvent. As a matter of fact it is the universal solvent. You see, we've been misled to believe it hydrates us but it doesn't it cleans us. Let's face facts here and bring up the point that if one drinks too much water it can kill them so if it's hydrating how does that work? People will tell you to drink "purified" water but what is that? It was distilled water before it was run through a facility adding all sorts of contaminates and then chemicals were added to "make it clean." I think I'll pass as it's these additives that are hurting people over time. Others say drink only "spring" water? What is that? It's distilled water that fell from the sky (rain) and turned into "spring" water by hitting the ground and/or traveling on the mudball or through it picking up "dead organics" along the way. I'll pass. The body doesn't need nor want chemicals or dead organics mixed into it as the body will just have to filter these things out or it gets to a point where it can't becoming more and more acidic creating all the known dis-eases any of us suffer from. Water is really just the tip of the iceberg buts it's a great place to begin as, again, we are 72% water. Controlling our water's makeup within us is huge and life changing. You want more info check out Dr. Cassar on YT and search for his vids on water. Like I said, water is a solvent meant to draw out toxins and clean the body. So if the water is already, let's say 50% full of things such as chemicals and dead organics or whatever it can only do half it's job not to mention your bringing in these new pollutants as you consume it. Great question by the way. I've consumed only distilled water for about 7 years ie drinking/cooking and I'm still alive and much healthier.

Hi @macoolette, this is a great process... but I was wondering if you could replace the text screen shots with the photo of the guy squeezing the sponge? It's just a little prettier for Steemhunt...

Hi @urbangladiator. I updated the photo as you mentioned. Thank you.

I was seriously planning to upvote this last night but when I checked it after 4hours of kst, I notice the post was 3hours old. Sorry about that.. this is however a good product to use in removing toxic mercury from water. I love this idea and I’ll read more on it

Why, do influencers have deadline on when to upvote? You can actually upvote now, there are still eleven minutes before ranking wraps up. 😊

I also thought of that at first. I thought it is like just transferring the problem to the sponge and worry about the sponge later but no. After the cleaning process, the sponge can be safely disposed like it has not contacted any mercury toxins before.

howdy macoolette! sorry I've not been around much this week, internet was down for 24 hours, I was offline for another day so I'm way behind!
but this is a very cool and important product, good find!

Yay! Thank you for dropping by again... It's okay, no apologies needed. I'll get to your other comments later. It's almost 3:00am here. 😃
