Greetings friends and welcome to my blog. Today I am glad to be a part of this weeks learning challenge and today I am making the coleslaw salad.
Make a "Coleslaw Salad": Using the guide presented in this course, add your own flavor (detailing utensils, ingredients, and step-by-step instructions).
The ingredients I used for the salad is: | ![]() |

- White cabbage
- Carrots
- Apple
For the dressing
- Mayonnaise
- Lemon juice
- Vinegar
- Sugar
- Salt
Procedure
I cut the cabbage into pieces and washed it in water. I added a dash of vinegar and allowed it to dry off on a sieve.

I also washed the carrots and scraped them and julienned them. | ![]() |

For the dressing
I put three spoons of mayonnaise into a bowl and lemon juice. I also added sugar, and salt and mixed together.

I then added all the salad ingredients together and then added them to the mixture and stirred.

I allowed to stay for some minutes in the refrigerator before serving as this enhances the flavor. | ![]() |

When preparing this salad, did you eat it as a side dish or as a main dish? Explain your answer.
The coleslaw salad was very nice and the flavour was great. I enjoyed it as a side dish and I ate it with jollof rice as a side dish. It was great and very delicious. The crunchy feel added a whole new experience to the main dish.

The ingredients used for the coleslaw such as the white cabbage and purple cabbage, the carrots and the apple has different health benefits and they includes;
White and purple cabbage: These are very rich in fiber and are a good source of vitamin C and K.
They also contain anti- oxidant properties and therefore helps in reducing inflammation in the cells.
They also purple a cabbage adds extra color and also a good source of anthocyanins which are antioxidants.
The carrots are a good source of beta/ carotene (vitamin A) therefore it’s good for the eyes.
Carrots adds crunchiness and sweetness to the coleslaw and also contains anti- oxidants.
The green apple adds crunchiness and a tangy flavour and it’s also a good source fiber and vitamins C.

In making the coleslaw, I had to observe some special tips such as:
I ensured that all the ingredients were fresh as in the Vegetables as this would help to make the flavour of the salad great.
I ensured the ingredients are cut uniformly and thin as this helped to enhance the appearance of the salad.
I used the dressing mixture as suited to me. It can also be used based on one’s preferences. I loved the lemon juice feel on the mayonnaise and the salt and sugar taste together.
I refrigerated it before serving and this enhanced the flavour and taste.
