Maha Shivaratri:

Significance: It is a grand celebration of Lord Shiva's cosmic dance (Tandava), his wedding with Parvati, and his victory over darkness and ignorance.

Timing: It occurs on the 14th day of the dark half of the lunar month of Phalguna, usually in February or March.

Rituals: Consists of fasting, all-night vigil, meditation, prayer, and ceremonial bathing (Abhishekam) of the Shiva Lingam. The devotees aim at spiritual change and attunement with Shiva's cosmic power.

Spiritual Significance: A night of intensified spiritual power, the night is devoted to transcending ignorance and attaining spiritual enlightenment.
