RE: So...about down voting on Steemit

in #steemit9 years ago

My advice, downvote if the post takes away from the value of the platform, upvote if it adds to the value. What adds or subtracts value is subjective but it is in everyone's interest to vote accordingly.

Sometimes an over-paid post is taking value away from the platform. In this case you might downvote simply to maintain a sense of fair distribution of rewards. Perceived fairness is the number 1 thing that gives people confidence in a community and currency.

@dantheman That makes sense. However, when someone down votes for detracting from perceived value, I think an explanatory comment as to why would be helpful in many cases. For instance, you recently down voted one of my pictures, but I have no clue as to why. It's a lovely pic of my wife on the beach in Kauai. A little sexy but not too much. Perhaps you down voted simply because I forgot to put an NSFW tag on the pic? If so, it would be helpful to know that because I could easily correct that and I aim to please in the future. But, without such feedback, I have no idea what to fix or how to improve in the future.

Also, could you clarify what effect, if any, down voting has on voting power?

I'm grateful for the guidance,

Sean

I don't think a picture of a woman in a bikini should be considered NSFW anyways and shouldn't be tagged as such. I'll upvote to compensate, it was a nice picture.

Heh, that wasn't the photo I was thinking of, guess that one is NSFW, lol. Still, great photo.

It's probably her tit hanging out that makes it a bit nsfw, and the pose.. I dunno. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
(talking about kauai-sunset-2 )

Too funny, I hadn't even noticed the nip slip! :-)

HAH, I thought that might have been the case :) Woopsie!
