Running with jackalopes: In the forest buying silver with Bitcoin I earned on Steemit!
Good morning Steemians! Kenny here, coming to you from Jackalope, in the beautiful forested hills of northern Arizona. I’ve been on the land for 3 days now, enjoying amazing conversation, soaking in the good vibes, and (mostly) managing to stay dry in what apparently is monsoon season here. This led to quite the surprising start to this visit for me, as all of my prior experiences with summertime Arizona have included triple-digit temperatures.
What is Jackalope Freedom Festival?
Jackalope is a “non-event where spontaneous order happens naturally, without any force, coercion, or aggression.”What this means is that until Monday, the 8th, this part of the Sitgreaves National Forest is filled with souls who believe it is possible for humans to live together in peace, without any need for central planning, laws, or otherwise forcing their will on each other. The characters around run the gamut from crypto-nerds & activists to homesteaders & preppers, with big names like Adam Kokesh, Ernest Hancock, and Derrick Broze already on scene. Alma Sommer is the founder of this wonderful non-event, a homesteader, agorist, and mother to a soon-to-be superhero.
What does a non-event look like?
The most beautiful thing about it is that there are constantly packs of children wandering from one end of the area to another on adventures. There’s nobody leading them or telling them what to do, the bigger kids are looking out for the smaller ones, and the parents all feel comfortable knowing that they can trust not only the adults around, but the kids themselves. All day and night, new RVs and tents are popping up, new fire pits are being dug, new solar panels are being mounted. There are people bringing everything to share & exchange that you can imagine, from crypto-currencies & fine metals, to chaga mushrooms & wonderful books like “The Conscious Resistance” and “FREEDOM!”. It actually feels very much like the Rainbow Gathering, at least in the way that it is self-organizing, self-assembling, and the people all want to help each other.
Steemit @ #Jackfest
For the first couple of days here, I was the only person around who was very familiar with, much less using Steemit, and I had been explaining it to a few content-creators around, getting them excited to sign up when they get internet. Yesterday evening, an RV parked 100 feet away from where I was hanging out, and I overheard someone talking about Steemit. As soon as that conversation had finished, I walked over and introduced myself to @brindleswan, and we talked for quite a while (our conversation convinced another person to join Steemit!) We decided to put on a Steemit introduction and Q&A on the stage this weekend, and I’ll be posting the video for all of you to enjoy. I have a feeling that by the time Jackfest is over, at least 20 folks here will be creating accounts.
The coming days
As I already mentioned, Jackalope is until August 8th, so if you don’t have plans this weekend, and are within a reasonable traveling distance, I would like to invite you to join us on the land. I’ll be here until the end, sharing [inspiring stories]( and my solutions-oriented focus, as well as doing interviews and photography. If there are any questions you’d like asked, photos you’d like to see, or ways you recommend talking about Steemit, just let me know.
