Book review - Catch 22

in #steemit15 days ago

Have you ever been in a situation where you couldn't win, no matter what you did? That’s what the book Catch-22 is all about. It's the funny and sometimes silly story of a pilot named Yossarian, who is in the army during a war. All he wants to do is go home, but his boss, Colonel Cathcart, keeps making the pilots fly more and more missions.

Yossarian is a smart guy, and he decides that the best way to get out of flying is to say he's gone crazy. The rule says if a pilot is crazy, he can go home. He goes to the doctor, Doc Daneeka, and says, "I'm crazy! I don't want to fly anymore!" But Doc Daneeka explains the most confusing rule ever, which is called “Catch-22.”

Catch-22 is a sneaky rule that says:

A person who wants to get out of flying dangerous missions must be sane, because it makes sense to be afraid of danger.

But, if you're sane, you're not crazy, so you have to keep flying missions!

This means that no matter what Yossarian does, he can't win. If he keeps flying, he’s crazy. But if he asks to stop flying, it proves he’s sane, so he has to keep going. It’s a super confusing no-win situation.

The story follows Yossarian and his friends as they try to deal with the ridiculous rules and wacky people around them, from a guy who only wants to get rich from selling things to the army, to a commander who only cares about getting his picture in a magazine. It shows how the rules of war can sometimes be really silly and don't make any sense at all. Yossarian’s big goal is to survive all the confusing craziness and find a way to get back home safely.
