Netflixing News: An Unfortunate Slowdown

in #steemit9 years ago (edited)

Hello Everyone,

I have loved my time here on Steemit. I've enjoyed sharing my opinions about various Netflix shows and movies, and I have been blown away by the positive response of so many in the community.

But I have run into a snag.

Up until now, my weekly Steemit schedule has gone thusly:

Monday: Copublish the most recent post from talanhorne.com.
Tuesday: Netflixing post.
Wednesday: Netflixing post.
Thursday: Netflixing post.
Friday: Watch Netflix shows.
Saturday: Watch more Netflix shows.
Sunday: Convalesce.

And I just can't keep going at this pace anymore. It takes a great deal of time to watch a whole tv series on Netflix. And the movie selection is not good enough to carry the Netflixing series.

I've had a lot of positive feedback from my reviews, but not a lot of monetary support. And I can't continue to do three reviews a week if I'm just dancing for pennies. The time I spend watching a series, seeking out images for my reviews, and then putting in the thought and effort to compose those reviews into something thoughtful is time I could be spending on other projects that are reliable money makers.

So, starting next week, you are going to see a slowdown in my review schedule. I am going to try to do one review a week. I am not going to stop doing reviews because I enjoy them and am still interested in Steemit as a platform, but the volume of my output is going to be constricted, because right now I am losing money on this venture.

It's not that I've had an unsatisfactory experience, I just can't fight the reality of the situation.

I would love to go back to my previous schedule, but to justify that I would have to be making at least $50 off of each review, and I don't know any way to guarantee that outside of some kind of sponsorship from a user, or group of users, who have the requisite Steem Power to make that happen.

And in case you're wondering: yes, that is a request to anyone who would be interested in making that happen, though I don't hold out a lot of hope at this point.

Thank you all for your support and your wonderful comments. I have some exciting new reviews planned for the coming weeks. I have loved my experience with Netflix and hope to give you some good ideas of what to watch (and also what to avoid).

Be seeing you.

One movie review a week is probably all I could keep up with. I too would love to do more on Steemit, but have to deal with time constraints, some of which involve my actual job, which at this point is a more reliable money maker (and I LOVE it, so wouldn't give it up even if I was raking it in hand over fist here). We all have to accept and work within our limitations.

Thank you for understanding.

Definitely take a break and power down so to speak. See you soon. thanks for the Netflix reviews so far!

Thanks for your support. I'll try extra hard to put out quality reviews from now on.

Thanks for the support, but I unfortunately do not get the picture.

Well we appreciate all the reviews you've done! No need to feel bad it can be a straining process writing on here. I'll always be checking up on your blog no matter the speed content is posted! Thanks @talahorne. I actually shouted you out about a week ago when I made a thanks for my 50 followers post.

I think I might have seen that. Sorry I didn't respond at the time.

Your input has always been appreciated.

People on Steemit don't want to see Netflix movie reviews I guess. Maybe just watch the shows cause you like them and don't write about them.

Enough people like my reviews for me to continue doing them. I've only attracted whales three times, but the heartfelt comments from lots of people have let me know that the work is appreciated.

Thanks for your support.

I'm not sure you should give up so quickly. Maybe scale back, yes, but keep at it. Those people making lots of money on Steemit are early adopters and celebrities. Money making right now has nothing to do with content. (I'm not saying the whales are putting out bad content, but that an upvote right now isn't content approval, it's a bet, with almost zero risk, that a post will go viral.) It will take time for this site to begin sifting through its resource glut. The only way to be visible at the end of all that is to keep going and have a nice portfolio of work to show once the dust settles. You're doing that - please don't stop!

Thanks for the encouragement.

I have no intention of stopping the series. But I am taking my foot off the gas, for now.

One other thing to remember is that Steemit itself is in flux right now. The platform itself may fail (though that's far from guaranteed). It may be prudent for all of us to show a little caution at this point.

It means a lot to me that you do, seeing as how you've been following me longer than nearly everyone else.

Thanks.
