RE: This is my number 1 most wanted feature for the Steemit condenser UI (DTUBE VERSION)

in #steemit6 years ago

Don't get me wrong: I like the idea and the ease such a solution would bring. But: it is too expensive.

Just upload your video to YouTube and link it into your steemit blog if you don't wanna use DTube. Steem can not store your videos like YouTube does. It is just too costy.. the whole machinery behind YouTube/Google allows to store that amount of videos. If you would offer the storage and a solution to pay it, sure there will be be a lot of developers who could code that and make a pull request for condenser. The costs are one reason why DTube opened now the gates that you can link YouTube files there without loosing the functionality of dtube. Because storage is expensive.

I don't really get your point because it is obvious that video files need much more storage than a picture. And since you have a pretty high reputation you should know why DTube used ipfs and that there is normally no budget to store video files except if a big company comes and pay a centralised storage.

Just my 2cents :)

Peace!

I know the cost is the reason it hasn't happened already. Otherwise it would have been there from the start I'm sure.

I have been uploading my videos to YouTube, which is fine and works. I know you understand why I wish I didn't have to rely on YouTube. What if I want to talk about something that YouTube doesn't approve of? I do not like being restricted.
