My mother-in-law was born in England and my father-in-law in Scotland. My husband was the youngest of five children. They came to live in South Africa when he was six years old. I was always amazed that she often would correct him on his use of English. I would have thought he knows everything, but she assured me that English is very difficult because of all the different dialects in England! I was just wondering what she must have thought about my English because I am Afrikaans speaking!
travel helps a lot in language learning..I'd use Nigeria as a case study, the pidgin English was carved out from the English language ..Now most Nigerians with little or no English diction are better off with it...Tourists are even amazed at the way we could create a different English language
