Mandalay Bay Silver Strike Gaming Token #1
Today we are looking at the first of two tokens from my former employer, Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Mandalay Bay opened on March 2, 1999 and I started working there about 10 months later.
This token's theme celebrates the Shark Reef, a full size aquarium that opened at Mandalay Bay on June 20, 2000.
These tokens have a tasty 0.60ozt silver center surrounded by a ring of brass. When I take them out of the airtite to photograph them I can hear the center piece rattle around inside that brass.
All the tokens I will be showing are a $10 value at the casino cage but they sell for well over $20 on the open market. I wonder if folks actually cashed these in for a crisp 10 dollar bill at the casino?
Say, what was your Job at the Mandalay?
Aquarium Maintenance man? Casino Dealer? Head of Security? Floor Manager? Money Counter?
By the time I left, I was a Sous Chef in the banquet kitchen.
Money Counter would be a nice job, you could pick out the silver coins as you find them.
Not much chance finding any silver being a Sous Chef. 😝
Unfortunately it's pretty much all tickets in the casino these days.
I like fishes in coins and tokens.

It was a one of a kind experience @silvertop. I worked in the banquet kitchen at a time when they expanded from 200,000 sq ft of banquet space to almost 2,000,000 sq ft. I am certain that if I live another 50 years I will not see as much food as I saw in 5 years working there.
