Rubbish?

At a roadside camp north of Cunnamulla we saw this hanging from a tree. At first we thought someone had flung some rubbish up into the branches, but on closer inspection it was either a growth or some kind of insect/bird nest. There were several of these scattered around our camp site in the trees.
