Lets Not Forget the Tableware \o/

in #steemsilvergold8 years ago

We sometimes forget that our silver stacking doesn't have to just consist of bars and coin rounds, and i suspect that sometimes in our quest for the next items for our stacks we can sometimes forget the items that really did coin the phrase " The Family Silver", These were items that could be used on a daily basis as well as being a show of wealth or status, and i am sure were purchased with one eye on the future and were often viewed as legacy purchases to leave to future generations. and as modern day collectors and stackers we should not overlook what is really our history, just wanted to share a couple of simple items i have gathered , namely a salt or pepper pot that is quite ornate and gothic in its style and a nice little jam spoon, both didn't cost much more than spot price, but as two little ornate pieces of history i thought they deserved a mention, and they can still be used today while retaining their value and history smiles :)

The photos are from the original seller who i bought them off from ebay so credit to them for the pics and the makers marks tell a story of their own

We really should not overlook this kind of item, they have a story all of their own \o/

Thanks for reading.

Sort:

My Local Coin Shop, occasionally, picks up old silverware, dinner forks, spoons, etc... Some come in fancy wood cases. Dealer says there is not much demand for this silver, especially, if a piece is missing, from the set. He buys and sell it for close to spot. Some of it is very old, Victorian era. A lot ends up at smelters and recycled. Some is turned into jewelry. Some are beautiful works of art, like spoon above.

Yes such a shame :) and made by craftsman, worth saving pieces when we can i think \o/

Its often overlooked :)
