Two Invaluable Mobile Numismatic Tools For Hunting Coins
When I first got into stacking silver, I was just about stacking weight. I bought generic rounds (and still do). But I wasn't really interested in the numismatic side of the hobby because I was focused on the SHTF scenario of precious metals.
My son who was about 6 at the time started showing an interest in coins. So we started hunting coins together.
Our local flea market is our "honey hole" of spots to hunt coins. We have come across some great finds.
These two tools have proven invaluable to us in our search for the shiny.
PCGS Photograde
https://www.pcgs.com/photograde/
This little tool is badass for getting a rough condition grade on coins in hand. You can compare it to known conditions with high quality digital pictures. It is available from the apple store and I'm sure its in the google play store for all you android heathens.
PCGS Coinfacts
Coin facts is great for finding value. You can search coins by year, mintmark, errors, and grade. And you can find ebay and other auction information on what that coin sold for in the past. Also all the auction pages have high res digital photos you can compare to further establish grade. Also available in apple store and the dark side store mentally challenged electronics users.
Using both of these tools in concert will make your treasure hunting more profitable and enjoyable. There is still risk involved but being informed as you can possibly be will mitigate much of that.
Happy hunting.
Peace, HM
