The 1984 American prospector – A gift that keeps on giving
Tucked away in my little metal carry case — the one reserved only for the truly sentimental pieces in my collection — lies a 1984 1oz American Prospector silver round. It’s not just any round; this one was gifted to me many years ago by my “Secret Santa” from the #silvergoldstackers community.
I’ve kept every single piece of silver ever gifted to me by you guys. Every ounce, every bar, every round has its own story, and they all live together in that case — protected, cherished, and never for sale. Alongside them, I’ve kept every handwritten letter, every scribbled postcard, every little note that came tucked in with a shiny surprise. It’s not just silver. It’s a box of memories.

Looking through it today, I was hit with a wave of nostalgia. Funny how you can forget the details until you hold something in your hand again — the slight toning around the edge, the iconic prospector crouched beside his pan, the bold “1984” stamped like a time capsule. And just like that, I was back in the early days of stacking, back when this community was smaller, perhaps a little rougher around the edges, but no less generous.
This round isn’t the rarest piece I own. It’s not even the shiniest. But it means more to me than most because it represents what this journey has really been about — friendship, connection, and the shared love of tangible wealth. We send each other silver, but we also send kindness, humour, encouragement, and respect.
