It’s a species in the arum family of Araceae. It’s native to Mo'orea in the Society Islands of French Polynesia. The species is a popular houseplant in temperate regions but has also become naturalised in tropical & sub-tropical forests worldwide, including northern South Africa, Australia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Pacific Islands & the West Indies, where it has caused severe ecological damage in some cases. Crushed leaves & stem are effective in snake bites. Crushed leaves are used as dressings for wounds & ulcers. It's known for its air-purifying qualities, effectively removing toxins like formaldehyde & benzene from indoor air. It's also relatively low-maintenance, thriving in various light conditions and requiring infrequent watering, making it a good choice for beginners. Additionally, it's believed to bring good luck and prosperity in some cultures & its trailing vines add an aesthetic appeal to any space.
