It's known colloquially as Chinese hibiscus, China rose, Hawaiian hibiscus, rose mallow & shoeblack plant which is a species of tropical hibiscus, a flowering plant of the Hibisceae tribe in the family of Malvaceae. It’s widely cultivated as an ornamental plant in the tropics & subtropics, but its native range is Vanuatu.
It’s medicinally used for treating wounds, inflamation, fever & coughs, infections caused by bacteria & fungi, diabetes, hair loss & gastric ulcers in several tropical countries. Also offers numerous potential health & cosmetic advantages. It is rich in antioxidants, may help lower blood pressure and cholesterol & could aid in weight management. Additionally, it's been explored for its potential benefits in liver health, cancer treatment & even hair & skin care.
