Heliconia Stricta Leaves 🍃
It's a plant species belonging to the family of Heliconiaceae which is native to Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, reproducing by seeds and by underground rhizomes. It is reportedly naturalized in Cuba and Puerto Rico & cultivated as an ornamental in many other warm regions. The young leaves & bracts retain water, forming pools called phytotelmata, which provide habitat for diverse invertebrates. Heliconia rostrate have been well known for antiophidic property. Ethnobotanically, rhizome of this plant have also been used to cure jaundice, intestinal pain & hypertension.
