The evergreen ocimum which is also known as clove basil, African basil & in Hawaii as wild basil, is a species of basil in the family of Lamiaceae. It’s native to Africa, Madagascar, Southern Asia & the Bismarck Archipelago & naturalized in Polynesia, Hawaii, Mexico, Panama, West Indies, Brazil & Bolivia.

It’s used in the treatment of various diseases such as diabetes, cancer, inflammation, anaemia, diarrhoea, pains & fungal & bacterial infections.

Recent research has shown that ocimum gratissimum is used as medication for persons living with AIDS & the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Scent leaves can be used to stop tomach aches, dysentery, diarrhea, and vomiting.
