A Boy with Big Responsibilities

He told me his name though I will keep it private out of respect. His story was simple but heavy he is the only earning member of his family. Every day before Sunrise he preparing ingredients in their rented room. Then he pushes his Small cart to Ibrahim Market hoping for a good days sales.

Life for him is a balance between hope and struggle. As a refugee he has no shop license and the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) sometimes forces vendors like him to leave. Once he told me PDA workers broke his cart and threw his food onto the road. That night he went home with nothing not even enough for dinner.

Yet he still come back every day because stopping is not an option. His family depends on him.

2. My Own Experience

20250815_162744.jpg

I personally bought an Afghani Burger from him for this challenge. The price was about 1.2 STEEM (PKR 50) very affordable for such a filling snack.

I was actually quite hungry so it tasted even better! The warm bread crispy fries inside and spicy tangy sauce made it a perfect street food experience. I had gone to the market with my mother and she wasn’t happy about me making videos in public in our society its not common for women to do such things. But for this contest I worked hard to gather photos and videos of the stall and the food.

3. The Shopkeeper Struggle

Life for this young vendor is not easy. Being an Afghan refugee he faces extra challenges. He is the only earning member in his family and bears the responsibility of rent household expenses and siblings’ education.

The biggest problem he is faces is from PDA (Peshawar Development Authority) official . Sometimes they ask street vendors to leaved because they are not officially licensed to sell in certain areas. He told me that there have been times When PDA workers broke his cart and threw all his food on the road. On those day he went home empty hande after working Since morning. we should buy somethings fromm these kinds of people and also give him somme extra money.
Still he does not give up every day he comes back hoping to sell enough to support his loved ones.
