Steemit Challenge S26W3 Street Side Small Business: Cobbler Shop
Hello everyone this is me @isha-rehaman
I hope you all are doing well and having wonderful day. today I decide to explore the life of a young cobbler working near my area. Behind Ibrahim Market Phase 6 Hayatabad Peshawar there is an empty plot where a 21-year-old boy sits daily repairing shoes to earn his livelihood.
When I first saw this challenge I immediately thought of him. My own fancy chappal needed repairing so I caried it to him. While he was Working I captured photos and observe his life closely. This is his story.
The Cobbler Boys Story
He is only 21 years old yet caries the responsiblity of being the breadwinner for his family. Every morning he sets up his small workspace in an empty plot. With just a few tools threads and polish he manages to repair shoes of all kinds from worn-out sandals to expensive leather shoes.
What struck me most was his dedication. Even though he sits in the open sun and dust he works with patience and concentration. Every stitch he makes reflects his skill and determination to provide quality service despite limited resources.
He told me that competition is tough as many people prefer big shops or branded outlets. But those who trust him keep coming back because his work is affordable and reliable.
My Personal Experience
When I gave him my fancy chappal he carefuly examined it threaded his needle and started stitching. watching him work reminded me how important these small traders are they save us from spending huge amounts by giving new life to our old shoes.
I felt proud to support him and grateful to this Contest for making me notice the hard working of such people.
01. What type of daily necessities business is most in demand in your area?
In my area all three types of street businesses exist cobblers mobile acessory sellers and roadside clothing vendors. However the street cobbler is always in high demand because repairing shoes is a everyday necessity. People prefer fixing their old shoes for a small cost instead of buying new one especialy in markets like Hayatabad where many workers and students live.
03. What is the quality of these products? Also if you have any experience with how long they last please tell me.
The quality of his work is surprisingly good for such a small roadside setup. He uses strong thread and leather straps (as shown in photos 6 and 7). From my experience his stitching lasts for months much longer than quick-fix glue repairs you get in some shops. My previous repair from him lasted around 6–8 months which is very decent for such an affordable service.
02. Have you bought these yourself or visited them?

04. How do people behave towards street vendors? (sympathetic ignoring bargaining etc.)
In my observation people behavior is mixed. Some value their hard work and pay happily while others often bargain a lot even though the prices are already low. Many passersby also ignore them completely. However those who know the quality of their work keep coming back and treat them with respect. Personally I feel they deserve more sympathy and appreciation because they are struggling honestly to earn a living.
