Agave victoriae-reginae ‘Compacta’ (Queen Victoria Agave)
I bought this as a small plant 2.5 years ago and it's flourished. I mostly hate agaves but this is one of the few species I make an exception for.
It got it's name from Victorian era explorers who had to do their patriotic duty and name things they collected after their queen
I do my best to keep the weeds down but those leaves are extremely hard and sharp and often draw blood
That's a very happy, healthy plant: how do you it?
The pebbles are there because I didn't want the cats to think of the pot as a toilet when the plant was smaller. I read that they do best with morning sun only and that's what it gets there. It's also rained a lot the past 2 years and it seems to have appreciated that
Cat pee is pretty lethal for plants... good luck with it!
Thanks! It gets a bit roasted when the sun is directly overhead in spring before the rainy season starts and I'm thinking that I should make plans to shade it if the coming el Nino is all that we fear

Some of the cacti and agaves are non-invasive and definitely worth keeping
Yes they are. The massive invasions of sisal agave, opuntia family and century aloe and various other cacti are hard to ignore though
