Content Promotion 📢
This proposal doesn't suggest anything extremely complicated, so I think it has a chance of being implemented. It's not addressed to some "higher powers" that can supernaturally make things better, but to our developers, in particular @the-gorilla, since he works on the Steemit interface. But first, it's worth considering whether it should be implemented at all.
Most of you probably remember the existence of the /promoted page.
I find its functionality quite useful and interesting. Let me remind you that by burning any amount of SBD, your post will be placed on the /promoted page. The more you burn, the higher your post will be ranked. At the moment, the page is almost empty, and there is no competition for the top spots. The reason is obvious. No one goes to the /promoted page, so the author does not benefit from his post being there. He will not receive any additional readers or additional rewards.
At one time, SC01 used to visit this page and it was much livelier back then. But going to /promoted just to get a vote from SC01 is a bit like buying votes. In addition, this is how we once again put the entire initiative on the Steemit team.
When I go to /feed to look for content to read, sometimes I'll look at a few posts and want to read something else, but there's nothing else interesting. At those times, I'd be happy to be offered something new that I haven't subscribed to yet.
What do I see on the /feed page? A huge amount of empty space in the left column.
I suggest putting the titles of the first five posts from the /promoted page here. I see many advantages to this solution:
- Authors will be incentivized to burn SBD in order to gain new readers. This feature will be especially useful for relatively new authors.
- I and other readers will have the opportunity to meet new authors.
- No user of automated voting services is interested in getting to the /promoted page, so it will only offer content from diligent authors.
- It is unlikely that the title THE DIARY GAME 11.05.2025 will interest anyone. Therefore, authors will have to make an effort so that their SBDs are not burned in vain. They will need to interest potential readers, make an effort to come up with something interesting.
- Many will want to be in the top five posts, as this will guarantee hundreds of new readers. Therefore, there will be competition between authors and more SBD will be burned.
I would be happy to hear your thoughts, although I am unlikely to be able to answer them in time. 🙂
I'm curious why those posts in your screenshot are orange, and not blue. Here's what it looks like in mine with light mode:
I'm wondering if your PC is having trouble pulling the promoted post list from SteemWorld... If you click on one of the dollar amounts, do you see the "Promotion Cost" highlighted in blue?
Edited to add:
I'd suggest one step further. Select five titles at random, with the odds of selection proportionate to the promotion amount. This way, even low-ranked promotions could get some placements. It's fairly easy to implement at current usage rates, although it could eventually present scaling challenges, so a long term solution might depend on hivemind as well as condenser. One compromise might be to select randomly from the first N posts, where N is something like 10 or 100 or 1000. Another compromise might be to implement some sort of price floor (F) and choose randomly from posts where the promotion value is above F.
I have no idea. In the previous version of your extension, they were blue.
Here's what I see:
I have Ukrainian localization, so it says "Promotion cost $0.00" in Ukrainian, but the text is not highlighted in any color.
We can also use this solution. I like it. 🙂
Ah... I'll bet it's the language. I have no idea how to fix that. The extension is looking for strings in English. I'll give it some thought.
Yes, you're right. I switched to English and everything worked. 😀
I created an issue for this. No promises about how long it will take, though. At least there's a work-around.

I have a fix. It now recognizes all of the possible matching strings from the condenser language files. I guess I should test for a week or two before I publish it.
It was very fast. 😃
I just submitted 0.5.1-beta for review in the Chrome Web Store. It could take a few days or up to a month before it's published (assuming approval).
The new version is available from the Chrome Webstore now. The promoted post highlighting should work for Ukrainian (and all languages in the Steemit menu) now. Please me know if there's still a problem.
