What are these tokens? What are their purpose, except that I can get steem, dollars or roubles for them?

Basically all I know about them is what @cryptospa says above:

FREEX tokens (the native token of FreedomEx) are exchangeable for STEEM and other cryptocurrencies on exchanges such as FreedomEx.io and Steem Engine.
