Polythene Parachute | Telugu |
We all dream of having wings, flying and seeing the world from above. We can make a simple toy parachute and see it sailing down slowly when it’s dropped from the roof. We will need a sheet of polythene sheet to make the parachute. Take a square sheet of polythene 60-cm on the edge. Cut a circle with a diameter of 60-cm. For this fold the sheet four times and then cut one cornet. This will give a sixteen sided polygon which will be close to a circle. Now cut eight, 1-meter long threads and tie a knot at end of each. Attach these threads at 8 equidistant points of the plastic circle. Stick tape just below the knots so that the thread will not slip out. Then collect all threads together so that their ends come together. Weave them through a metal nut and tie a knot. Now the parachute is ready to come down.
A parachute works by creating a large air resistance/friction opposite to its motion as it moves down
See how children have fun flying this parachute.
Now that you have made the parachute lets come back to the making the circle with a polythene sheet. Remember we made a 16 sided with a single cut. How can we make an 8 sided octagon with a single cut?
And now it's time to think.
For a circle of 60-cm diameter we used a single nut. If we had 4 nuts as weight what would be the diameter of the circle that we would need? This work was supported by IUCAA and Tata Trust.
