RE: Ten Facts, One Lie

in #tenfactsonelie6 years ago (edited)

I bought one #steembasicincome unit for each of the four non-bot accounts (@bryan-imhoff, @clayrawlings, @hitmeasap, and @whatsup) who replied to this post before today:

The lie was #4. There is no school called The University of Magnitogorsk. There is one called Magnitogorsk State Technical University but as far as I know it doesn’t have a Nanobiology Institute. Anyway, I’ve never been to Russia, let alone Magnitogorsk.

Several of the true facts aren’t really all that unusual I suppose but the story about #5 has been posted on the Steem blockchain and #7 was mentioned in passing in a much longer post. My dad lived in Norway throughout the Nazi occupation, 14 years old at the time of the invasion, 19 by the end of the war. My mom was an American schoolgirl at the time. As with many members of “the greatest generation”, neither talked much about the war years. Occasional bits and pieces leaked out though, usually after one of them had had a few adult beverages. But then they’d clam up and stop telling details and rarely revisit the same incident. Apparently my dad and some friends were clandestinely listening to the BBC and were discovered, my dad hit the man with the handy large blunt object. In my mom’s version, it was “a German soldier”, in my dad’s it was “a Waffen-SS man”. Neither mentioned how my dad and his friends disposed of the body, the discovery of which would have led to reprisals. Both of my parents are now gone, so many stories will remain untold.

Damn, I had a feeling about the university being false right at the beginning, but it felt too easy... Awesome list of things though. Very interesting! Thank you very much for the shares! :)

I looked up the university and found the one you mentioned. I assumed it had a Nano biology department. As we all know, when you assume you make an "ass out of u and me." Great post by the way.

Oh Thank you for clearing that all up. I actually really enjoyed that post. :)
