yet another group busted smuggling weed out of Thailand

in #thailand2 months ago

There must be a lot of people that are not getting busted or something because I can't wrap my head around the people that seem to think that taking many kg of marijuana out of Thailand to some other country seem to think they are going to get away with it.

This country is well-known for having easy access to weed, and therefor customs in other countries are on high alert for people acting suspicious about their luggage, and that is exactly what happened to 3 Indian women were trying to smuggle a total of 9 kg of high-end marijuana from Thailand to back home.

I am not much of a user myself but at the same time believe that weed should be legal everywhere that booze is however, I do realize that governments get to control how they decided to run their countries and would never try to smuggle anything. I've seen the stories about how people end up getting huge fines for something an innocuous a bringing produce across border, so a controlled substance? No chance I am going to get involved in that and I have a difficult time relating to the mind of a person that thinks they are going to be able to pull one over on some of the biggest power-hungry goon squads in the world: Customs.

3 Indian women had a combined total of around 9kg of high grade hydroponic when Indian customs noticed they were acting strange in the Mumbai airport after a flight arrived from Thailand. For me, this is such a stupid crime because surely they would already be aware of the fact that their luggage would already be under greater scrutiny seeing as how they are arriving from one of the only places in the world where weed is legal across the board. It would be like returning from a "vacation" to Colombia and then acting all shifty in the New York City airport: It's just so obvious.

I don't really even use, but that looks really nice!

The women tried to claim that they were lured into a deal of free travel in exchange for smuggling, which very well could be true because this is a common and well-documented method of drug trafficking that is used around the world but at the end of the day it shouldn't really matter. They knew what they were doing was against the law. It is unclear as to what sort of punishment these women are looking at, but Thailand generally isn't all that interested in international attention to bust some sort of drug-ring and have more bad press thrown their way, so that offer likely isn't on the table.

I did read that police in India are suspicious that there is a Brazil-lead smuggling ring that targets Indian women to smuggle for them with promises of free luxury vacations but to me, anytime a government starts saying stuff like this it sounds like they are just passing the buck. Oh something illegal happened? Let's blame one of the most famously lawless countries in the world. Easy peasy.

The street value of this particular stash is reckoned to be around 33 million baht, which is around 1 million dollars. I gotta call bullshit on that. It doesn't seem very likely to me that it is worth that much. Any weed experts out there wanna chime in on this?

The 3 women were traveling together and ranged from 19 to 44 years old. I hope the vacation truly was luxury, because where you are headed to next definitely isn't going to be!
