Prerequisites for Coloured Pottery

These are the initial required prerequisites to make a coloured pottery. The detail of these are given below:

  • Plaster of Paris as basic material
  • A plastic waste square box as a mould
  • A half litre bottle to place in between the square box
  • Mustard oil or grease
  • Knife
  • Water
  • Colour ( I will use orange Food colour )
  • Poster colours

These things will be enough to make a beautiful coloured pot.

Cutting of Square Box

To give a good shape to the pot I have cut the square box from the half. Now my mould for the pot is ready. I am sure it will become a beautiful pot. The pot is thin and I will be able to get the moulded pot easily.

Mustard Oil to mould and keeper bottle

Mustard oil or grease or any other lubricant is useful to fetch the inside bottle from the centre of the pot. It also allows the main pot to leave the mould easily without being broken. I had mustard oil to my facility. I used it out side the keeper bottle and inside the square box mould. I applied sufficient amount of oil to fetch it out.

Plaster of Paris and water paste

Plaster of Paris is the most important and crucial part of this formation. I added the complete packet plaster of Paris in the bowl. I added necessary water into the powder to make a smooth and speak paste. It is looking very thin.

Orange colour

This is orange colour to change the colour of the plaster of paris paste. It is a food colour. I will use this in the paste to give it a orange colour.

Orange in paste

I added orange colour in paste. I did not mixed it separately because if add more water it will make the paste more thin and it will not be able to handle easily. I added dry colour in the paste.

Mix of colour

I mixed the dry colour in the paste well. I added more colour and mixed it completely and it became I homogeneous mixture. It got a unique light yellow and orange like colour.

Formation

I added the paste in the square box mould. I pressed the half litre bottle and pushed it into the mould. It got its place. I filled it completely and the colour of the paste was visible on the upper side. The oiled bottle was just like floating in the paste but I pressed it hard and it was carved in it.

After dry

I gave it enough time to dry so that it could not broke. There are total two layers of the paste. The bottom to near top is of orange colour. The lasted later is of white colour but topping with orange colour. The top is not smooth surface.

Plain surface

I plained the surface with knife. It got a lot of time. I plained the surface with care so that it could not break. The upper surface was very smooth and soft after cutting it carefully.

Colouring

I coloured the pot with poster colours. I had coloured half side of the pot. At the bottom I coloured green. In the center box I coloured red. To the next layer I applied yellow colour. Similarly I completed complete colouring.

Yellow top surface

From the top I coloured it yellow. The plain top surface with yellow blend is looking attractive.

Complete colouring

After complete colouring the pot is looking very beautiful. Each layer of colour is beautiful. The contrast and combination of the colours is making the design elegant and sleek.

Name and date

I used flowers to place in this coloured pot with multiple layers of colours. I used a piece of foam. I pierced the flowers in the foam. It is looking a beautiful pottery. I used a tag to display my name and date on it.

Hurrah!!!! Pot is here

I am happy to complete this pot and I placed flowers in it. It is looking beautiful. The different layers of colour are awesome. This is my first time making the pot. It resulted a nice piece of hard work and art.

Are you satisfied with your final results???

Yes I am really very satisfied with my final result. The pot became completely related to the shape of the mould. Each layer of the pot was perfectly formed according to the layers in the mould. I am very happy and satisfied with my final result.

At the end Share your opinion about the pottery classes

It was a very creative and precious class for me. My time was not wasted. It was very fruitful. I learnt to make pottery. I have learnt the process of making pottery out of waste materials like plastic bottles and boxes.

Showcase your all projects that you submitted throughout the whole season (only pictures required)

Due to hard and busy routines in life I was not able to participate in the previous pottery classes. I am regretting all the previous classes. If I get another chance I will try to participate and learn about the pottery formation and designing.

I am inviting @mvchacin, @josepha, and @m-fdo.
