The Recent ICC Crickey Hall of Fame Inductees | The World of Sports
Hello, fellow Sports Enthusiasts,
The ICC Cricket Hall of Fame is a prestigious award given to the legends of the game who have made significant contributions to the sport's beauty and memorability. With classy batters, fearless ballers, and legendary captains, it's indeed a wholesome list. This is the highest level of achievement for the players to be among the best.
It was established in 2009, with 55 inaugural inductees, and new players are added each year. Today, the list includes 122 cricketers, comprising 15 women, including legends such as W. G. Grace, who began his career in 1865, as well as recently retired stars. So, let's see the recent inductees to this list.
Daniel Vettori (New Zealand)
Format | Matches | Runs Scored | Average | Top score | Wickets | Best Bowling | Catches |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Test | 113 | 4,531 | 30.00 | 140 | 362 | 7/87 | 58 |
ODI | 295 | 2,253 | 17.33 | 83 | 5/7 | 5/7 | 88 |
T20I | 34 | 205 | 12.81 | 38 | 38 | 4/20 | 9 |
One of the best and most promising all-rounders and a left-arm spinner New Zealand has ever produced, who was handy with both bat and ball. He represented NZ for 18 years from 1997–2015 and captained the team between 2007 and 2011. He is the most capped NZ player in both Test and ODI, which shows his consistency. He is only the third player to score 4,000 runs and take 300 wickets in Test cricket, which shows his all-round skills. Now he is working as the Assistant coach in Australia's Men's team. Highly deserving player to be inducted into the list.
Matthew Hayden (Australia)
Format | Matches | Runs | Bat Avg | 100s/50s | Top Score | Catches |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Test | 103 | 8,625 | 50.73 | 30/29 | 380 | 128 |
ODI | 161 | 6,133 | 43.80 | 10/36 | 181* | 68 |
T20I | 9* | 308 | 51.33 | 0 /4 | 73* | 1 |
It was a nightmare for the other teams to see Hayden and Gilchrist/ Justin Langer opening the batting when Australia was dominating world Cricket. He was an aggressive and intense player, yet had a 50+ average in the longer format with a highest score of 380, which is still the second-highest individual score. Hayden represented Australia from 1993–2009, and he was a major part of Australia winning the 2003 & 2007 cricket World Cups. Currently, Hayden is working as a coach & a commentator.
Hashim Amla (South Africa)
Format | Matches | Runs | Bat Avg | 100s/50s | Top Score | Catches |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Test | 124 | 9,282 | 46.64 | 28/41 | 311* | 108 |
ODI | 181 | 8,113 | 49.46 | 27/39 | 159 | 87 |
T20I | 44 | 1,277 | 33.60 | 0/8 | 97* | 19 |
He is one of the most stylish and consistent batters in World Cricket, yet a bit underrated one. He represented SA from 2004–2019. His averages speak for his talent, and he performed well in any condition, against every opponent. His cover drive, backfoot punch, and leg-side flick are a treat to watch. His 311* runs against England at The Oval in 2012 is the first triple century for South Africa, and he has scored ODI centuries against all Test-playing countries. Not only that, he is still the fastest player to reach 3,000 4000, 5000, 6000, and 7000 runs milestones in ODIs.
Graeme Smith (South Africa)
Format | Matches | Runs | Bat Avg | 100s/50s | Top Score | Catches |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Test | 117 | 9,265 | 48.25 | 27/38 | 277 | 169 |
ODI | 197 | 6,989 | 37.98 | 10/47 | 141 | 105 |
T20I | 33 | 982 | 31.67 | 0/5 | 89* | 18 |
He is one of the most prolific opening batters from South Africa, who represented the team from 2002–2014. He has been involved in four 300+ first-wicket partnerships with Herschelle Gibbs and Neil McKenzie. But this guy is more famous as a captain. He was given the role in 2003, just at 22 years old, surpassing many senior members. From there, he captained the team until his retirement for 108 Test matches. He is the most capped captain ever, and with the highest number of Test wins as a captain (53). Not only that, in his reign SA team was a legendary one, especially in Test Cricket, dominating the rankings for years.
MS Dhoni (India)
Format | Matches | Runs | Bat Avg | 100s/50s | Top Score | Catches/stumpings |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Test | 90 | 4,876 | 38.09 | 6/33 | 224 | 256/38 |
ODI | 350 | 10,773 | 50.57 | 10/73 | 183* | 321/123 |
T20I | 98 | 1,617 | 37.60 | 0/2 | 56 | 57/34 |
This guy is a legend in the game, especially as a captain, only behind Ricky Ponting. He represented India from 2004-2019, and just within a few years, received the captaincy, passing many seniors. He led India in ODI and T20I from 2007 to 2017 and in test cricket from 2008 to 2014. He ended the trophy drought for India straightaway, and he is the only captain to win all three ICC white-ball trophies - T20 World Cup (2007), ODI World Cup (2011), and Champions Trophy (2013). He is known for his calm nature, and decision making ability. It's not just that, he is a great batsman especially in ODI with over 10,000 runs, and known for his aggressive style. And can't forget him as a quick and talented wicketkeeper especially against the spinners.
Sana Mir (Pakistan)
Format | Matches | Runs | Bat Avg | 100s/50s | Top Score | Wickets | Bowl Avg | Best Bowling | Catches |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
WODI | 120 | 1,630 | 17.91 | 0/3 | 52 | 151 | 24.27 | 5/32 | 42 |
WT20I | 106 | 825 | 14.22 | 0/0 | 48* | 89 | 23.21 | 4/13 | 26 |
The first Pakistani woman in the ICC Hall of Fame. She represented the team from 2005–2019, and captained the team from 2011. She was a genuine allroundr with 200+ wickets, being the higest for Pakistan.
Sarah Taylor (England)
Format | Matches | Runs | Bat Avg | 100s/50s | Top Score | Catches/ stumpings |

WT20I | 90 | 2,177 | 29.02 | 0/16 | 77 | 23/51 |
She represented England from 2006–2019, and she was one of the best Wicketkeeper. And elegant top-order batter as well. She was an important member in England victories at Women's cricket World Cup in 2009, 2017 and ICC women's T20 World Cup in 2009.
