Gold

Gold has held a fascination for almost everybody since forever. It seems people are capable of many things just to get their hands on gold. Yes, I know, they are also capable of almost anything to get their hands on money too. and gold is a type of money, in fact for centuries, maybe millennia coins were made from gold and were legal tender. I have seen Honduras gold coins from the eighteenth century as well as a couple of US gold coins. But of course gold stopped being used for coins a long time ago, only coins that have gold in them that are made now are memorial coins and they are not legal tender. Yes, they are as good or even better than money, but using them as a purchasing object is not that easy. At least not here were I live.

And people are kind of dumb when it comes to gold. For example I had a friend who won a lawsuit in Florida and was awarded nearly a million USD. He came down to Honduras with that money and just spent it like it would never be gone. But the thing is, he bought about $50,000.00 worth of gold jewelry and he wore it all on his arms, his hands, his neck his chest. and yes, eventually some guys came to where he was drinking armed with AK47's and took all the gold away. He had also bought a magnum .357, but he didn't even remember he had it. The robbers didn't even take the gun, they just wanted the gold. This is one of the reasons I doubt the validity of someone being safer with a gun, have you ever had a gun pointed at you? All of a sudden your bravado is lost. I have had several guns pointed at me, didn't scare me at all, but in all of these happenings I was drunk, so maybe it doesn't count. By the way I can't even use a gun, i have essential tremor, I would probably shoot myself instead of the mugger. And this guy is just one of the many I have known who have been mugged because they carry their gold visibly.

I think gold is great, and has great value, and I think it is so great maybe because I have never owned a single item made of gold. So I think deep inside me I want to own gold. It is not an addiction to owning gold, I would just like to know what it is like to own even a gold ring. Would my luck change? Would I become different? These are good questions, and questions I don't think will likely be answered. The best way I can see myself getting gold is to go panning for it in some rivers and streams deep in the Honduras wilds that are supposed to have gold. Thing is my fear of snakes far outweighs my need for gold, so I think gold is a no for me.

I am writing things up like this, mainly dumb things because there is no football, it is very hot and when it is not very hot it is raining like a deluge and I get frustrated. So I have to wait for the European leagues to start, maybe that will get me out of this funk. I am writing this in the World of Sports because to me gold has become a kind of sport.
