Paris Saint Germain 4-0 Real Madrid
This was supposed to be the dream semi final, the European champions against a team that somehow seems to beat all odds. i must say I do not like Real Madrid and some of the times it has beat the odds have left me with serious questions. I had no doubt PSG would win, because at the moment I think they are the best team in the World. They managed to have what they always wanted, a really great team, and without any huge stars, no Neymar, no Messi, Mbappe, just a group of very good players, and thanks to management foresight an also great bench. I will show some bias here and say that Liverpool (my team) was the one team who put PSG in any real danger for the Champions League. A very funny duel that was, an astonishing PSG in Paris and getting no goals because of an extraordinary Becker and losing the game by receiving a goal in the last minutes in one of the few Liverpool attacks. The next week the reverse happened an incredibly good Liverpool crashing against an incredible Donnarumma, and losing by one goal in one of the few PSG attacks, and ended up losing in the penalty shots. As I said two basically nearly equal teams.
But today PSG were facing Real Madrid, a team that is very good in its counterattack, knows what it wants and practically never gives up. I don't like them, but they are quite an impressive team. But after having the ball and attacking the PSG area for three minutes things went downhill for them, an incredible Curtois save and then an incredible Ascencio mistake, where Dembele managed to take the ball in the area and just had to pass it to Fabian who scored. This was rather lucky for Madrid because if there had been no goal Curtois clearly fouled Dembele and it would have been a penalty plus a yellow card for the goalkeeper. And a yellow carded goalkeeper is no longer the same he has to avoid contact because he could get another yellow and out he goes. Two minutes later another error, this time Rudiger, I don't know what he was trying to do, but it became a gift for Dembele, and Dembele is good at finishing something like this.
At this point my son who is a Real Madrid fan told me, Ok that's it no way are they coming back. i was not so sure, I have seen Real turn games around in five minutes. anyway I had to do a fast errand and when I came back the score was already 3-0. Thus ended the first half.
The second half started with PSG trying to control the ball, or at least trying to keep it as far away from Donnarumma as possible. and so the game continued, Alonzo tried some changes but it was not to be. In fact PSG had more chances than Real and scored another goal to round up a 4-0 whipping.
Funnily the referee finished the game on the 90th minute, no overtime, he didn't even take into account the cooling break which is at least two minutes. It makes you wonder why he did this.
On Sunday we have the final, Paris Saint Germain-Chelsea. If I had to bet I would go all in for PSG, Chelsea's defense is not solid. But it is a 90 minute game and it is eleven against eleven so anything can happen. I will root for neither one and just hope it is a great game and the better team wins.
He probably wanted to show mercy 😆
I haven't watched any of the Club World Cup (even I suffer from football overload eventually) but it's little surprise to see PSG in this position (assuming they're taking the tournament seriously). Their team cohesion is another level at the moment, free from some of the superstars, I think we'll see many of their players start to get the individual recognition that they deserve.
Like you, I expect PSG to comfortably beat Chelsea on Sunday although I won't be watching it.
