Tottenham win Europa League

in The World of Sports2 months ago

Tottenham at last have another trophy. Their last trophy was the League Cup won in 2008, 17 years ago. Their last European trophy was the UEFA Cup in 1984. The UEFA Cup was what is now called the Europa League, seems they had won it once before, so this is their third Europa League Trophy or its equivalent.

The first ten minutes of the first half were for Tottenham who had several chances, the next 10 were for MU, then the game levelled up and for 20 minutes things were very even. At last on the 42 minute Tottenham scored. A swing from the left Johnson touched the ball, it rebounded on Shaw and eventually went in. I am not sure who touched the ball last, Johnson or Shaw. What I am sure of, is that if the ball would not have gone in, it was a clear hand ball from Shaw, so I guess a penalty would have been given.

The second half of course saw MU going all in attack looking for the equalizer. I believe the defining moment of the game was the Vicario error, the Hojlund header and the way Van de Ven cleared the ball right from the line. After this was not a goal, I was quite sure Tottenham had the title won. Yes, MU had several chances that were either cleared by the defense or by Vicario who made two great saves. Solanke missed what should have been a clear goal because he could not control the ball.

A great win for Tottenham. Deserved? Yes, they scored the goal, and goals are what matter in any game. They defended well, and struck at the right moment. I personally do not like MU at all, but Tottenham is not even close to a favorite team. So I watched the game out of pure love of football. I did side with Tottenham because of their lack of title wins. And seeing how they celebrated I am quite happy they won it.

Manchester United is completely out of Europe for next year. They have to think things out real good. They do have a very good manager, some great players and great fans. But things are just not clicking for them. And we are talking about a team that does have a lot of money, but these things happen to all teams, seems like there comes a moment when nothing goes right. While Tottenham, who had a terrible season, now have a trophy to brag about. Well I guess Heung Min had a right to a title, as did Harry Kane even though he did miss this one.
