Corinthians Decisive Week // LetsGoCoringation

in The World of Sports25 days ago

Greetings, Coringation travelers!

I'll start by stating the harsh truth: my beloved Corinthians has not been in its best state for the past few years. Not only football-wise, since the Men's team has been fighting off the ghost of relegation for the past few seasons while the Women's lost head coach Arthur Elias and lots of their star players, but also off the field, since the former president Augusto Melo suffered an impeachment after corruption scandals.

And even though the Men's team, Coringolation, won the Paulistão in the start of the year, and the Women's team, As Brabas, is at the final of the Brasileirão and playing soon in Libertadores, we're in a crucial moment for both squads. While on the one hand As Brabas tied the first game of the two in the final against Cruzeiro and decide the title of the Brasileirão Feminino this weekend at the Neo Química Arena, on the other hand Coringolation plays tonight at the same stadium, the decider match against Athletico-PR for a spot in the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil.

After years and years of complete domination of the Corinthians' Women's Team of the Brazilian and South American football, we've struggled since late 2023.

Along with other players, we lost the defender Tarciane to the MLS shortly after the Women's World Cup, who would later be included in the top 30 list of best players in the world that year.

But the losses also extended to the bench, since we also lost our champion head coach Arthur Elias, that went to be the coach for the Women's Seleção Brasileira.

The new coach, Lucas Piccinato, struggled in his first complete year, 2024, unfortunately failing to keep the heavy legacy left by the Brabas in the previous seasons. During the final moments of the year, we also lost our attacking player Gabi Portilho, that was one of my favorite players.

This years started in a sad note, when we lost the finals of the Supercopa do Brasil Feminina 2025 to Sao Paulo. However, we're still alive in the Copa do Brasil Feminina, and will debut in the Libertadores Feminina soon, since we're at the finals of the Brasileirão Feminino.

After a thrilling first match last weekend, that ended 2-2 against the Cruzeiro squad, we're hoping to celebrate the title in Itaquera during this next weekend!

As my dear Internet-hitchhiker friend @the-gorilla once made me realize, the Brazilian football competitions are confusing. Our calendar starts in January with championship within each state of Brasil (Corinthians plays the São Paulo's championship, named *Paulistão) , and only start the national competitions in April/May; these competitions are the Brazilian League, called Brasileirão, and the Brazilian Cup, called Copa do Brasil. At the same time, we play the international events organized by Conmembol, one of the worst managed institutions in the world, that are the Copa Libertadores, and the smaller Copa Sudamericana.

Coringolation won the Paulistão 2025 over our green rival earlier this year, and is the biggest champion of the competition, with 31 titles.

However, we were eliminated during the pre-phases of Libertadores earlier this year, which ended our international endeavors for 2025. In the Brasileirão, we stand mid-table, but with the shadows of the relegation zone still making us afraid.

Having said all that, the only competition Coringation is still on, a part from the Brasileirão, is the Copa do Brasil. And if we don't classify tonight against Athletico, it is basically the end of the football year for the Men's team.

Fortunately, our boy Gui Negão, that graduated as a player in Coringations Youth Squads, left his mark during the first game of these quarter finals, so we're coming to tonight's match with the minimal advantage on our side.

We've also got our lead scorer and striker Yuri Alberto coming back from injury, and our international star Memphis Depay coming hot after becoming the record holder for most goals for the Netherlands National Squad. This Monday, September the 9th, always marked one year since he got to Coringation!

Dear readers, it's not been a quiet week, but it's been a great one! I worked a lot the three days, and also managed to do some physical activity each of them! But now it's my moment to relax and enjoy, since I'm right now going to my lovely friend's house to enjoy each other's company and root for our beloved Coringation!
