Bangladesh had a dream start. The opening pair scored 91 runs before Jabed Omar fell in the trap of Elton Chigumband. He scored 33 runs. The other pair, Nafees Iqbal, followed him when the score was 93 and was completing 56 runs in his name.
Young Mohammad Ashraful made a healthy partnership of 60 runs with the veteran Habibul Bashar. Ashraful got out after scoring 19 runs. Then, Razin Saleh and Bashar had a 119-run partnership. Bashar was out when he was 6 runs away from his maiden Century. Later on, Saleh continued and scored 89 runs. Meanwhile, Khaled Masud gave him a fantastic company. Masud was out at 49s. Mohammad Rafique (69) and Mashrafe Mortaza (48) added some valuable runs on the board and Bangladesh finished the 1st innings at 488/10.
Chris Mpofu got 4 scalps and Graeme Cremer and Mluleki Nkala had a brace. Elton and Stuart Matsikenyeri got the other 2.
In the first innings of Zimbabwe, the opener Matsikenyeri was looking for some quick runs and was eventually caught out at his 28 from 30, when the team's score was 31. Later on, Zimbabwe never got the momentum until they lost their fifth wicket at 86 runs on the board.
At that point, Taibu and Brendan Taylor made a 66-run partnership. After the fall of Taylor at 152, when his achievement was 39; Chigumbura and Taibu carried the momentum forward and scored a 119-run partnership. After scoring 71 runs, Elton Chigumbura was out at 271. Taibu tried to make a partnership with Hondo. He was out as the 8th batsman at 308 runs after scoring 92 on his name. Zimbabwe finished their innings at 312, while trailing by 176 runs.
Mohammad Rafique got a Fifer and Mashrafe got 3 wickets. Tapash Baisya got one. The other one was run out.
In the second innings of Bangladesh, they lost some early wickets. Apart from Bashar's fifty (55), there was nothing remarkable. Though Ashraful (22), Saleh (26), and Masud (23) helped Bangladesh overcome 200 runs, Bangladesh finished the innings scoring 204/9. Elton Chigumbura had Fifer and Hondo took 3 wickets. Mpofu got the sole one.
While chasing the 321 target in the fourth innings, Zimbabwe lost two early wickets. They were 2/2. Matsikenyeri (20), Masakadza (56), and Taylor (44) tried to overcome. But Enamul Haque Jr. made that impossible. He took 6 wickets in that innings and put Zimbabwe behind. Mashrafe and Tapash got 2 wickets each, and Zimbabwe was all out at 154.
Bangladesh made History. First-ever victory in the Test after 5 Years of getting the status. After playing 31 matches, losing all of them. Finally, Bangladesh got the taste of victory in the longer and most prestigious format of the game of Cricket. At some point, we are thankful to Zimbabwe. They were always Good Friend of ours.
