RE: Throwback Thursday: The Cats of Nope

Visit coming up...he doesn't know yet and won't be excited when I tell him. Need to get his teeth checked. I'm brushing them daily to keep them healthy.
He usually behaves well, but is an anxious fellow and I hate seeing him in distress.

Catnip bribes help :) Flash also needs his teeth checked. I've looked into brushing their teeth but the pet toothbrushes are so huge. What kind of brush do you use? I think a baby toothbrush might fit more comfortably in a cat's mouth than the ones you get at the vet.
I also didnt know you're supposed to brush their teeth starting when they're small so I don't think they would tolerate it.

They can be so dramatic :)) Not many know they have to start when they are small and some don't even know they have to brush their pet's teeth. I've had my rescued cat for 2 yrs now and he was probably 2 yrs old when he came to my door. So he had no previous teeth brushing plus he's a very scary cat.
I experimented a lot and started slowly and daily with just a few teeth, so he got used to it.
I may write a post about this :)
So I began with a qtip, you don't need any toothpaste, even just a small cloth to rub the teeth clean. I recently bought a gel that helps break down and prevent plaque and a rubber finger brush which I squeeze between my fingers to fit into his tiny mouth. I agree pet brushes are so big. I also got a baby brush but it was still too big and learned that it could damage his gums.
Anyway I always cuddle him through the process and keep it gentle. Plus I reward him at the end with nutritional yeast, which he loves....he runs to his dish right after his teeth are cleaned :))

A q-tip sounds like a good idea. I was wondering about using a mascara brush but that would be too hard.

Thank you for all the tips! I'll also keep an eye out for your post about it :)

The mascara brush would indeed be too hard. The q-tip or a cloth work well and I also dab them in some hydrogen peroxide to remove germs. Good luck and arm yourself with patience :))
