A reflection from a snail infront of my home

I was looking at the plants in front of my house and was actually thinking of cutting them down. But as I looked closely, I saw a snail. Snails are one of those creatures we rarely pay attention to unless we are thinking of them as food. Some people in this community prepare and eat them as snacks. But if we take some time to observe them, we will realize there's so much we can learn from their behavior. They can truly inspire us about life.

Snails are slow-moving creatures, common around us. When you take time to watch them, you will notice that they have purpose and direction. The fact that they can survive in tough conditions tells you that they do accomplish their goals.

For most of us, we carry so much on our heads. Our careers, relationships, goals, and all these put pressure on us. We want to accomplish everything in the shortest time possible. The “snail strategy” does not appeal to many of us.

But life has taught us that true achievement takes time, and that experience comes with patience and observation. If you can’t move exactly like a snail, then at least learn from its way. Move slowly, but with purpose and direction. This small creature teaches us the power of patience. Just because it seems like it is not moving does not mean it is not progressing.

That reminded me that in life, there are moments when you simply need to pause or hold on before you can move forward again. This morning, I saw the snail at what looked like the same spot. Later, I noticed it had reached the top of the plant.

The quiet nature of this creature made me see a level of humility we often miss. When a snail passes by, you will not hear a sound. But that does not mean it is not working, it’s giving its all in chasing its objective, step by step, moment by moment. Snails are good at identifying obstacles. They may take a longer route just to avoid something in their way and yet still reach their destination.

This taught me that we do not have to remain stuck when we face challenges. Sometimes the path you planned might be blocked, but that does not mean there’s no other way. Like a wall in front of you, instead of trying to go through it, why not go around it to find the entrance?

Often, the longer path may turn out to be the safer and more accurate one. Choosing the longer route, step by step, adds a level of discipline to your journey. It builds experience and helps you grow. Just like the snail moves with purpose and patience, that’s how we are meant to live with direction, confidence, and calm persistence.

The snail may seem like a quiet, fragile creature, but what it accomplishes makes me conclude that it carries a lot of strength. How it overcomes its challenges is a lesson in patience, humility, and discipline. So, it's not always about rushing sometimes, it is about slowing down, having confidence in your path, and learning from every step you take.
