Ulog 134: Stopping The Bleeding
It's been exactly four months since Mr Golden D suffered a heart attack and we've been staying vigilant with his health on many levels. One of the concerns I have is when he has a cut and it bleeds. Before his heart attack, heart surgery and addition of blood thinners (anti-coagulants) to his medication regimen, he would get a paper cut, bleed a little and it would stop; but now..., since this life altering moment, the possibility of bleeding has brought forefront the question, "what happens when he seriously cuts himself and/or bleeds profusely?"
One early morning TV watching moment had given me some hope that if he were ever to start bleeding and couldn't stop it, we'd have a backup plan.
Yes, yes, I know what you're thinking here...
- This is one of those cheesy As Seen On TV thingies
- But wait... there's more...
- Mike Lindell of My Pillow fame has his picture on the packaging?
- But does it really work?
- And on and on...
But in all seriousness... just this morning we had an opportunity to test this FDA approved stop bleeding powder.
Mr Golden D suffers from a skin condition called hidradenitis suppurativa that causes and creates under-the-skin boils to develop and the only temporary relief is to let the boil pop; which includes an after effect of oozing and some bleeding. Well, some bleeding that has always been controlled and we've been able to stop within a moment and a bandage. But now... there is no such thing as controlling the bleeding.

He developed one of these boils Friday and Sunday morning as he was getting ready for work, it burst. He freaked! Screamed for me... and I just knew what had happened.
I rushed into the master bathroom ready for the medical emergency.
I had him apply pressure to the erupted boil area with a washcloth as I prepared our first ever usage of Bleed Stop.
Within one minute the bleeding had stopped. When I first saw the Bleed Stop powder, I immediately thought about the olden days of a styptic pencil (used to stop bleeding). But I also remember this pencil burned... oh how it burned when you applied it to the wound area!
But Bleed Stop did not burn!
This powder has me thankful that I had it on hand, because I fear without it, this wound would have bled for quite some time.
I have already sent some of the packages with Mr Golden D to work to have on hand if he needs to use it there (AND I'm thrilled I did!) If he gets a cut or blood blister there, he'll be able to control the bleeding.

I will keep it in mind for my father, he had a heart surgery and he is on blood thinners but still quite adventurous. I remember when i was a child my grandmother had a handmade powder and used to apply it to us when we got hurt. Still to this day we dont know from what was made of,lol.
I definitely recommend it. I offered a packet to my mom for my dad too. He's also on blood thinners and hasn't shaved his beard and moustache in years.
Oh I wonder what your grandma used! I'm curious!
We all wonder lol. I am not sure but I think it was some kind of barber's powder.

That is frightening! I know about this blood thinning medications, it´s dangerous if you get a cut. But the maintenance tablet helps you so that the arteries are not blocked... Hope your hubby would be fine. So good that he has you on his side!
Wow, I'll keep this in mind @goldendawne. How scary to think it will be tough to stop the bleeding, good thinking on your part. Glad to hear he's recovering from his heart attack, take care :)
We use those super fast stop bleeding pads in First aid over here they really are brilliant.
I hope you never have to use them though!

Very interesting to get a first hand 'field test'.
I have not seen this in the UK - but I will see if I can track them down.
Hope your husband is doing well.
