RE: Spider Coccoon

I noticed that as well and thought it was really cool. In some analysis I was doing recently I took a look at reward for comments vs. top level posts and comments are only ~ 6% and top level ~ 94% of author reward. I think good comments and good commenters are so important to author retention and just in general making this platform not feel so... crappy... for lack of a better word LOL.

Oh I almost forgot to say - love butterfly lady she is definitely spreading good vibes. I am also liking the ink-washy backgrounds you have been using. Keep on drawing and growing spoder you are the best spider around these webs.

Absolutely @carlgnash ...

"I think good comments and good commenters are so important to author retention and just in general making this platform not feel so... crappy..."

... correct, at least to this Steemian. It is unfortunate that this does not seem to be the uhhh ... "majority opinion." But ... We do what we can. Right?

absolutely. I have mulled over starting a comment curation guild in the past, similar to the various curation guilds that curate and upvote good content, but focusing on good comments. I am already spread too thin with my time on Steem as it is but I still think it is a good idea.

Yes understood @carlgnash ...

"I am already spread too thin with my time on Steem as it is ..."

... but glad to know we are like-minded. On this ... 😉

That said, I wonder what impact all of the changes in HF21 are going to have on commenting? Perhaps more specifically, on upvoting good comments (as well as on posts)?

well unfortunately I think it will be a chilling effect on upvoting comments. I think a lot of the more engaged and active commenters/ comment upvoters are in the large minnow / small dolphin range and unfortunately the change in reward curve will mean that a lot of people who can currently just barely upvote a comment above the dust threshold, will no longer be able to do so :(

Yes @carlgnash ...

"... I think it will be a chilling effect on upvoting comments."

... that is what has concerned me. I am less active now with other time commitments, but am still doing what I can. The proposed changes in HF21 concern me, but ... I don't delude myself to think my opinion matters ...

Not sure what I will do, if these changes make matters worse ...

The bright side is that another hard fork is planned for (hopefully) the not-too-distant future (SMT hardfork). When the predictable happens and HF21 economic changes lead to even more use of bid bots, even more delegation to bid bots, and the rich growing even richer, at least the changes can be rolled back in relatively short order. So many people are so sick of how Steem is that they seem to think any change is a good change - I don't think there is any way at this point to prevent HF21 EIP from happening, but at least if it is as disastrous as I expect we won't have to wait forever for the next hardfork to change it.

Well, again @carlgnash ...

"... I don't think there is any way at this point to prevent HF21 EIP from happening, but at least if it is as disastrous as I expect ..."

... we are in some agreement. I am not impressed with what I have read about it (and I've read many posts ...), most particularly the downvote feature. I can hardly wait for the creation of the almost inevitable posse comitatus groups "riding roughshod" over the Steem blockchain "doing good" ... At least in their eyes ... 👎

And right behind these? Bots to "automate" the "doing good" ... 👎👎

Oh hey! It's happening again! I think they ARE actively curating for engagements off 3speak posts!!! WOW! This is amazing XD I love it :D :D :D Rewarding people taking interests in other Steemians' blogs is really a cool idea, and I think they are manually curating the comments, as well, since I saw the ones that were one liners didn't get upvoted from the last post :D???

Thanks as always, for your kind words, Carl <3

Im only a smol spoder doing what a smol spoder can~ :D
