RE: Traffic Koans [Day 4]

This one rings a sad song in my heart. For two reasons:

  1. I've loved and lost a couple biker friends to motorcycle accidents.
  2. The accidents could have been prevented by my friends, if they had applied basic safety to their riding.

America is a country big on biking. For example, Sturgis is the event of the year: http://sturgismotorcyclerally.com/. All along the highways sit billboards advertising all manner of local items. Sprinkled along the billboards are PSAs, including the traffic reminders like "Watch for Motorcycles." I can't help but wonder: where are the "Motorcyclists Observe Traffic Rules" PSAs? You know, something that speaks directly to motorcyclists who share the roads with much larger vehicles that have blind spots that can hide full-sized automobiles.

Basing off stories and what I watch on TV and movies, I could easily say that the bikers there belong on a whole different plane from the bikers here. The bikers here are much closer to those in Vietnam, etc--more reckless and have less discipline. Bikers there, I think, are more organized and commands more respect. Maybe the difference lies in the way they carry themselves. I'm not so sure. If you ever get a chance to see the types of motorbikers here, you'll immediately know what I'm saying.

I've seen a couple shows and can visualize the differences. :D In any country, motorcycle recklessness is mind-blowing. Unless there are a lot of people with death wishes...which could be!!

It could be! I mean, it doesn't stray from the truth. It boils down to discipline no matter where you are, it seems.

This. 100% this.
