Cary, Burlington, Salisbury, Selma and Kannapolis (all in North Carolina) know that train passengers (locals, visitors, boarding and alighting) buy from small downtown businesses. Even towns where passenger trains don’t stop (think Thomasville, NC) but there is frequent freight and passenger train passing through attract rail fans who buy locally.
